play dates in california

friends are what make a place and all our experiences special, your best memories aren't the same without someone to share them with..so this last 1.5 weeks has been filled with times i will never forget..its been so much fun having visitors in town..especially the little taste from my first home with james flying in, followed by a little taste of my second home with lauren rolling in...and all amongst that, a lot of time with the jaworski's..its been a bundle of fun.

lauren and her cousin bethany drove down from LA to spend a couple of days by the ocean..lauren having never seen the ocean before was in for a real treat..bike rides, waves, sand, blue skies, sunburn and all importantly, flashing the entire beach..not just one but TWO boobs..lauren you sure did make the most of your first beach day!
the first night bareback was hosting an art and music party downtown..perfect time to get these girls a real burger..mmm
it was nice to have an excuse to do touristy things..wandering down to the convention center to look at the amazing views with the jaworski's..
breakfast at jungle java after our run..it was great having someone to gossip with on my morning run..thanks lauren xx
good to see the tan lines make a showing..i guess the crowds may have just thought you were wearing a white bikini lauren!?im sure no-body even noticed :)

can't wait to share this world with the rest of you..book your tickets!!

sight seeing

busy busy times ahead here in little ob..this last weekend i had a visitor from home fly into town to see what this place is all about!me and james grew up together in wee alexandra..and find ourselves all the way over in america together..it really is a small world.we picked him up on our way home from a over night getaway to Julian, a small town east of here, with adorable shops, cafes, restaurants, old buildings..and more importantly, apple trees..its the home of the apple pie!!we stayed in a stunning little hut amongst the trees..perfect for lying on the deck watching the stars!
once james set foot in san diego we took him straight to the beach for some fun before drinking and a comedy show that evening..sunday brought a full on american experience..when your too far from home to  do the REAL world cup you do the next best thing..the soccer world cup..which was a hard fought battle enjoyed by many down at Bareback Grill Gaslamp.
old town mexican
Monday brought a bike tour of the beaches, sunshine, mexican and margarita's..we sure did pack in a lot to his short stay!this coming week we have people arriving all over the show..plus a soccer game..Real Madrid vs Chivas de Guadalajara on wednesday night...its going to be a great week..lets hope the sun keeps shining!

keep it real...
and check this guy out..he was touring with eddie vedder when we saw him in concert 2 weeks ago..

italiano

it is done.the GRE has been taken.the results have been determined.my weeks of studying didn't really pay off.but now its time to enjoy summer in all its glory!

its crazy that iv been out here a month already..a month which has been filled with much fun, laughter, drinking and food consuming..pj and i have been whipping ip some amazing italian dishes from a recipe book which i was first given by mum called The Food Of Italy..which i lugged all the way over to the states despite the extra 2kg it added to my luggage..trust me, its worth it!
having time to spend time cooking rather than whipping up a meal in 20mins for an ever starving pmae after a workout..iv been able to make some tasty treats..heres the italian recipes weve tried out so far:
www.fishpond.com.au.jpeg

Spicy Lamb Casserole: this was pretty darn good, but how can you ever go wrong with lamb!? it was kind of a process..but worth the trouble..i served it with a wee spinach side salad and home made foccacia bread.

Polenta with Wild Mushrooms: i intended to make this..but pj ended up cooking this up. it was amazing, simple but very tasty..and i learnt that polenta is pretty much the same thing as american grits..just yellow..not white..and served with something a little more appetizing than biscuits and gravy at breakfast..

Potato Gnocchi with Pancetta and Sage: mum made this first for me when they visited tulsa this year..and it was so good i had to try myself..although a little time consuming and fiddly, this is the best gnocchi i have ever had..the sauce is cream, cheese and pancetta..not the healthiest but definitely the tastiest!

Spaghetti Carbonara: this is pj's favourite so far..this one has been made twice..in a week..and is one i can whip up after those workouts back in tulsa..it takes about 20mins, is super simple and delicious!

Pizza Margherita: for this i made home made pizza dough from the book, then topped it with home made tomato sauce, basil and mozzarella..for this one i have photos to represent the goodness..
before and after the heat
..enjoyed with a little vino..
since its summer time in america..get adventurous and cook something light and fun..
and since its cold and wintery back home in nz..time to get out that crock pot huh!?

the adventures of the ob bike crew

july 4th is a celebration of america's independence and although im not american, i believe in freedom, and thus i believe in my right to party in celebration of america, and enjoy a day off from study like all americans enjoyed their day off from work..but a huge thanks to those that did work, providing us with ample booze and food to get us through the day!

i spent the day of adventures amongst the most patriotic american's, singing american songs, drinking american beers, taking american shots, biking from beach to beach and enjoying one of the most beautiful days san diego has put on this summer!
...without restraints or restrictions..biking across san diego with the breeze blowing in our hair gave us that sense of complete freedom..and also the sense of complete pleasure as we flew by the queue's of cars packed with people trying to get to the beach for the day..SUCKERS!!!
adventure 1: rehydration after the ride with a pitcher of some insanely sugary shot which in pairs we raced to the bottom of..
..pitcher down it was back on our bikes for adventure #2 to pb bareback..
..only on america's day...
with the day heating up..and us needing to sober up..adventure #3 was to the ocean for a quick paddle..
..before we hit up vegas on the beach..
..after we had enough of being amongst the crowds we set out for another ride..adventure #4 to robbies!!
..a little partying on the bay..and swimming in the river..before our last bike adventure for the day..back to ob for the fireworks display...
..and some american shots...
..and a massive ob mashmellow fight..next year sandals arn't the footwear of choice..sticky icky mess..
hope you all had a great july 4th also
xx
